Destination

Cairns, Australia

Cairns is a natural meeting place; where the sea meets the rainforest. A popular tourism hub for many years, Cairns has recently had a reinvention. Immerse yourself in the breath-taking beauty of the region, and enjoy all that this quintessential North Queensland city has to offer.

Acknowledgement of Country

Tropical North Queensland is the only region in Australia that has two, distinct Indigenous cultures. In Cairns, we will acknowledge and pay respects to the two Traditional Owners of the land in which this conference will be held:

  • Yirrgandji (pronounced Iri-kand-ji), the Traditional Custodians of the narrow coastal strip of land from Cairns North to the Mowbray River. They are known as the Saltwater people.

  • Yidinji (pronounced Yid-in-jee), the Traditional Custodians of the land including Cairns, south to the Russell River and west to parts of the Atherton Tablelands. This includes the Gimuy Walubarra Yidinji (south of Cairns and surrounds) and the Mandingalbay Yidinji (east of Cairns, across the Trinity Inlet to Yarrabah).

Cairns Convention Centre (CCC)

The Cairns Convention Centre has just completed a $176 million expansion and refurbishment.

Located in the heart of the city, the CCC is perfectly situated within walking distance of world-class accommodation, dining and attractions, and boasting magnificent views of the Trinity Inlet and beyond.

Sustainability

Hugging the fringes of two World Heritage listed areas, it is vital to the Cairns Convention Centre to maintain important environmental controls. The unique design elements and sustainable practices within the CCC reflect their commitment to this.

Some examples of environmentally sustainable features of the CCC include:

  • Rainwater storage from the roof design into tanks of 200,000L capacity
  • 1200 sun blades and living green façade to reduce direct sunlight and cool the centre naturally
  • Energy efficient fans and LED lighting
  • E-water in lieu of chemicals for food safety sterilisation

The CCC also partners with many local community providers to collaborate and support important causes such as Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, Reef Unlimited and Reef Restoration Foundation.

Whilst attending the event at the Cairns Convention Centre, you will enjoy the vast array of premium, fresh local produce, which is all part of the new culinary experience at the CCC.
